The Science Behind Light Therapy and Coolvio® Patented Fabric Technology
Did you know that dogs need sunlight to stay happy and healthy, just like humans do? That’s right: natural light plays an important role in your dog’s circadian rhythms, energy levels, critical hormone production, and even longevity. As we are now indoors more than ever, it’s even more important that we make the most of our time outside, soaking up the benefits of healthy light as much as we can.
That’s where the bArctic Light Therapy Dog Shirt comes in! In cooler, winter months when sunlight is limited, your dog can benefit from the Coolvio® patented fabric technology that converts sunlight into healthy, red and near-infrared light and provides a layer for warmth; in the hot, sunny summer, your dog experiences the bonus of staying cool and being protected from sunburn.
How Coolvio® Patented Fabric Technology Works
The innovative fabric technology of the bArctic Light Therapy Dog Shirt offers your dog year-round wellness benefits of red and near-infrared (NIR) light in cooler conditions while minimizing the risk of overheating in warmer, sunnier environments. Dogs reap those wellness and cooling benefits from the conversion of sunlight, including 98% of UVA and UVB light, into healthy red and near-infrared light!
That sounds great, but what does it mean, and how does it work?
What is Red and Near-Infrared (NIR) Light?
Red light and near-infrared light are wavelengths of light measuring ~600 - ~1,000 nanometers (nm). Visible light measures from ~400 - ~700 nm and near-infrared light is just beyond red light. Near-infrared light is different from far-infrared light because NIR light does not generate heat and far-infrared light does. Research has proven these red and near-infrared wavelengths of light to be healthy and beneficial because these wavelengths can penetrate deeper into our skin without risk of heat or burns and energizes our cells by stimulating mitochondria, not dissimilar from the process of photosynthesis in plants!
Red and near infrared light works when exposed to skin to better stimulate energy production in cells; this directly relates to the efficiency of biological systems. Research studies have shown these wavelengths of light provide an energy boost to the cells, which improves cellular functionality and the result is a wide range of health benefits. Red and near infrared light is non-invasive and does not rely on drugs or chemicals to promote benefits. Existing research (for people and for animals!) suggests that red and near-infrared light can help treat ailments and typical pet health challenges such as:
Wound healing, including after surgery
Soft tissue injuries
Clinical research on the effects of red and near-infrared light on humans is well documented, and continuing to expand into the world of dogs, horses, and other animals. That’s why we love to hear real, authentic feedback from our users who have noticed positive changes in their dog’s health and behavior as a result of exposure to healthy red and near-infrared light from wearing the bArctic!
Casey K. & Sammy, St. Petersburg FL
“He had an injury on his side that required stitches and he would not tolerate even the donut cone, he was stressed, he wouldn’t lay down, he wasn’t having it. So I thought, let me put his bArctic on him because it’s going to cover the area perfectly. He slept like a baby, he healed beautifully, and he wasn’t stressed out at all. So we ended up using it for two weeks - he lived in it while he was recovering from that injury. Who knows, maybe it was the reason he healed so well and so quickly. Even the vet was like, my gosh, it looks amazing!”
How does the bArctic work?
Using the science of laser physics and optics, the bArctic Light Therapy Dog Shirt creates a microclimate for your dog by converting sunlight into healthy red and near-infrared light that doesn’t generate heat. The Coolvio® patented fabric recycles UVA and UVB light from the sun to emit that healthy red and near-infrared light, offering protection from harmful sunlight without blocking the wavelengths our pets need to live their best lives, unlike other sun protection products on the market. Remember: this is the same light that veterinarians use in hand-held laser treatments for dogs to promote healing, reduce joint and muscle pain, and minimize inflammation.
